It's just a word

This word causes so much confusion, hatred and bad feelings...

جهاد

It's just a word! Relax!

We name our kids "Hope" and "Faith" naming your kid جهاد is not the end of the world and it's not gonna cause your kid to grow up harrassed and hated by everyone. People are so uneducated and mean. Scared and paranoid.

Another rant complete. Happy Thursday.

Yeah, figured you'd cheat like me...copy and paste into google.

And just to be clear...I don't write these so everyone can agree with me! If you think I'm an idiot for having a certain opinion, by all means, tell me that you think I'm an idiot! I'm a big boy! I was just clearing my mind after a 20 minute conversation anyways...no big deal.

okay, you have to be do a pretty good query to get the English translation...

جهاد translates to "jihad" originally meaning "a struggle", but a handful of far left religious extremists around the world and paranoid far right conservatives in this country (U.S.) have turned it into a totally different monster all together.

Which is too bad, because the idea behind the word "jihad" or struggle is pretty cool...a struggle against the evils of the world, against the temptations in this world, against one's own weaknesses...this word could describe life itself for many. And out of this "struggle" all of the good things in this life come.

Thousands of people around the world don't name their children "Jihad" because they hope they will grow up to be bomb-strapped murderers. I had a friend at Deloitte whose name was/is Jihad and we had many conversations about how ridiculous some people's interpretation of the word was. SOme of the reactions he would get to his name being called in a large group of people at school. Problem is that most people react with paranoia rather than what seems more natural to me, curiosity or the desire to learn and cross cultures and ideologies to better connect with the world rather than separate yourself from it.

Okay, a little detail. Laters!
